"Hello, this is the Lavender Line, how can we help?
Later known as Brighton Gay Switchboard, just one number could get you information on where to club, advice on legal issues, and even tips on VD! Switchboard has been helping people since April 1975, so this year we're celebrating 5 decades of advice and support, with occasional heavy breathing!
A year after the London Gay Switchboard opened in 1974, Brighton’s Lavender Line started supporting its local LGBT community. In an unusual act of collaboration, activists from different groups came together to ensure the service survived. Join us as we look back at how it came about, the issues they faced, along with some never-before-seen photographs.
Trigger warning: contains swearing, Tory councillors, and a shotgun-wielding vicar!"
